24 Hours of Lemons

24hoursoflemons.com puts on the most fun races with "$500" cars.  The ironic quotes are there because there are some cars that stretch that requirement.  Watch this video

We were given an RX7 with a bad clutch, the engine ran.    A friend had raced an RX7 with SCCA and still had the roll cage from his car.  We cut the top off and installed the previously owned roll cage.  We put a clutch in it, and found a 2 bbl manifold for a rotary engine on ebay motors.  We ran two stroke oil and it seemed okay.  However under 'racing' conditions the radiator was not adequate.  We lasted about an hour but it was a blast.  It was painted with a very high quality house paint.  And in the true spirit of the 24 Hours of Lemons, we were into the car for around $200.  Hard street tires and we were off to the races.  You will notice in the pictures the "trail braking" technique followed by the "pointing in the wrong direction" technique.  Which led to the wagging the finger in the drivers general direction by the race steward.  All in good fun.
